Accessibility statement

Geist Labs publishes technical material for engineers. If a reader cannot get at it, the material has failed, regardless of how good it is. This statement sets out what we are aiming at, where we currently are, and how to report a problem.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA across geistlabs.dev and our digital products.

This is the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act through the harmonised standard EN 301 549, by Section 508 in the United States, and by the ADA Title II web rule. Targeting it once covers all of them.

Partially conformant. Most of the site meets Level AA. The known gaps are listed below, and each one is tracked.

What is in place today:

• Semantic HTML with a single h1 per page and a heading order that does not skip levels.
• Keyboard access to every interactive control, with a visible focus indicator.
• Text contrast checked against the AA thresholds for both the paper and ink route fields.
• Text that reflows to a single column at 320px and survives 200% zoom without loss of content.
• Alternative text on meaningful images, and decorative figures marked as decorative so screen readers skip them.
• Form fields with programmatically associated labels, and errors announced rather than shown by colour alone.
• No content that flashes more than three times per second.

Our playbooks are sold as PDFs. Accessible publishing is a design decision, not a post-processing step, so we are handling it at the source rather than retrofitting:

• New titles are produced with tagged headings, a logical reading order, real text rather than images of text, alternative text on figures, and a declared document language.
• Every product page states the format and page count before purchase, and we will add an accessibility summary describing what assistive technology support each title has.
• If you have bought a title and cannot use it, tell us and we will provide an accessible version or refund it, whichever you prefer.

Under the European Accessibility Act, micro-enterprises providing services — fewer than 10 people and under EUR 2 million annual turnover — are exempt from the service obligations. Geist Labs is one person with no turnover threshold in sight, so it is comfortably within that exemption today. We are stating the target anyway, because the exemption is an accident of size rather than a reason to publish material people cannot read, and because it does not extend to products in the same way it does to services. We review the position whenever headcount or turnover changes, and this page changes with it.

Conformance is assessed by self-evaluation: automated checks in development, plus manual keyboard-only and screen reader passes on the main routes. We have not commissioned an independent third-party audit, and there is no VPAT for this site. If you are evaluating us in a procurement process that requires one, say so — we would rather commission the audit than claim a conformance level nobody has checked.

If you hit a barrier anywhere on this site or in anything we have published, tell us. It is the fastest way for us to find what testing missed.

• Tell us the page or file, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology and browser you were using, if you can.
• We aim to acknowledge within 5 business days and to give you a fix or a timeline within 20 business days.
• If you need content that is not accessible to you, ask and we will provide it in another format at no charge.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate to the market surveillance or enforcement authority in your country. In the EU each Member State designates its own authority under the European Accessibility Act; in the UK complaints go to the Equality Advisory and Support Service; in the US the Department of Justice handles ADA complaints.
